11 December 2019 – Thanks to Betway South Africa’s spirit of giving back to the community, Christmas came early for the Soweto Home for the Aged in Mofolo on Wednesday.
As part of the brand’s ongoing commitment to making a difference in communities across thecountry, Betway, alongside some of the Betway 12th Man graduates and brand ambassador Lucas Radebe, partnered with the Soweto All Stars FC to play their part in bringing festive cheer to the elderly.
This special time saw Betway donate much needed food parcels and, in realising theimportance of exercise in curbing physical ailment, exercise equipment to encourage the elderly to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
Speaking from the Soweto Home for the Aged, Betway Marketing Manager, David Rachidi said, “We are proud to have left lasting legacies for a number of clubs and federations across thecountry, and today marks the conclusion of all the 2019 life-changing community initiatives from Betway. As a brand we understand the significant role played by our elderly citizens and this donation is a small token of appreciation to them. They have increasingly become our pillars of society that are raising our future sports stars.”
Kabelo Thai, Facilities Manager at Soweto Home for the Aged thanked Betway, “We’re grateful to Betway for not only bringing food, but for also coming to spend time with the elderly. It is the personal interactions that make them feel part of the community and not as isolated as they mature. May Betway continue to make the difference it has made here at the SowetoHome of the Aged.”
As part of the day’s proceedings, Betway also made a donation to the Soweto All Stars Club that included soccer balls and training equipment ahead of their festive season tournaments.
Speaking on behalf of the Soweto All Stars club, Zola Manqina who is the founder of the club expressed his appreciation to Betway for partnering with them to make a difference.
“This year marks 10 years of existence of our club and the reason for its growth is because of the people of Soweto, including the elderly who sometimes attend our matches. Thanks to Betway, we have been able to show our gratitude to our elderly citizens who have done so much for our communities. As a township-based club, we are honoured to be partnering with a purpose-driven global brand on this heart-warming initiative,” said Manqina.
The handover was also graced by Betway 12th Man graduates, Steve Sekano and Sibongile Khumalo as well as brand ambassador, Lucas Radebe.
