27 September 2020 – A new dawn beckons the nation of Bakgatla Ba Kgafela, following the community’s Heritage Month celebrations that were held as part of the nation’s Kgabutle-Kgothakgothe (Annual General Meeting) on Sunday, 27 September at the Lesetlheng Village in Moruleng.
Following years of maladministration and loss of confidence in the leadership of the royal family, the momentous occasion marked the first appearance that the rightfully recognised Chief, Kgosi Ramono Linchwe addressed the nation of Bakgatla, where he confidently took the nation through his immediate and future plans for the nation, as it takes its first steps into a new and promising era.
The celebrations, which were also graced by the attendance of Kgosi Kgolo II, saw the leadership of the royal family giving a detailed and transparent report to the nation on key issues pertaining to the financial and legal matters governing the administration of the Bakgatla nation, which have been the main contributing factors to the ongoing unrest in the community of Bakgatla.
In his address, which was guided by the new administration’s mantra of “Restoring Peace, Dignity and Prosperity, Chief Linchwe invited the Bakgatla nation to join him in embarking on a new journey that will see the nation rising back up to its rightful place of honour through sound and trustworthy leadership.
“As the nation of Bakgatla Ba Kgafela, we have always taken pride in our beautiful culture and rich resources that has seen our nation commanding great respect from all walks of life. The past few years have unfortunately been marred by political unrest, violence and corruption that did not have the Bakgatla nation’s interests at heart. Today marks a new era for us all, together with the leadership of the royal family, we would like to extend an invitation to the entire nation of Bakgatla to rewrite the future of our nation in a peaceful and dignified manner that symbolises who we are as the beautiful nation of Bakgatla Ba Kgafela” he said.
Amongst other key issues which include employment opportunities, community upliftment and access to essential services, of paramount importance to the new and rightfully recognised Chief and his leadership is the conclusion of the forensic report which he believes will bring a close to the ongoing uncertainty in the community. In fast tracking this process, a financial and legal team has been put in place by the Chief to ensure that this matter is soon brought to a conclusion.
Chief Linchwe went on to further highlight the importance of respectfully working together in gradually rebuilding the local economy and putting measures in place that will ensure that the Bakgatla nation actively participate and reap the benefits of the land’s rich natural resources.
“Working together with government, key stakeholders and local business, the nation of Bakgatla can once again be restored to its rightful place that will see our people, both young and old, thriving across all spheres of life. This however can only be done through us as one peaceful and law abiding nation that joins its hands in striving towards a common goal of restoring Peace, Dignity and Prosperity to the nation of Bakgatla” he concluded.
